Asthma Workplace Link

Written by Tim Pegler

Workplace exposure to quartz, asbestos, dust and fumes increases the risk of respiratory problems including asthma, a Norwegian study has found.

Researchers at Norway's University of Bergen conducted an 11 year study of 2,819 adults, recording their sex, age, education, smoking habits and lifetime exposure levels to quartz, asbestos, dust and fumes. They found 28.3 per cent of the workers were exposed to dust or fumes, 5 per cent to asbestos and three per cent to quartz.
