The heightened risk of breast cancer for women using hormone replacement therapy begins to return to normal about six months after they stop the treatment, scientists have discovered.

While the longer a woman has been on HRT the greater her risk, the chance of suffering breast cancer decreases from six months after ceasing HRT, irrespective of the duration of treatment, the study found.
